“A mother is always the beginning. She is how things begin.”– Amy Tan

Maternity photography has had my heart from the very beginning. No matter where I end up on my photography path I will always always always document women and their journey to motherhood. We often don’t value ourselves enough to feel worthy of a photography session for ‘just’ ourselves. This is a time of transition, growth, and profound beginnings, you are participating in creation and nothing is more worthy of being celebrated than that. Women tell me all the time that they feel frumpy and uncomfortable during this period and are often unhappy with how they believe they look - nothing gives me greater joy than showing them how they actually look through my eyes and lens. Taking some time to feel grounded, beautiful, and connected to your amazingly powerful body in the last few weeks of your pregnancy can be an incredibly restorative and strengthening experience in the lead-up to your birth. It is also a wonderful visual reminder for your child of how loved they were before they were even earthside.

FAQs

  • I usually recommend 28-38 weeks as the best time for your session. Having a lovely round bump to show off makes for the best images. Leaving it too late could have you feeling a bit tired and uncomfortable to enjoy your session to its fullest.

  • As maternity sessions are somewhat time sensitive it is best to book in a time early in your pregnancy. If you have left it to the last minute, don’t worry! I will always make time to fit you in before bub arrives!

  • Please visit the Styling page to download my What to Wear Guide and view my Client Wardrobe. I have a wardrobe of stunning gowns available for you to use.

  • Please know I do this every day. Your comfort is my top priority. I will never put you in a position where you feel uncomfortable or awkward. I will guide you through prompts and poses to show off your body and hide any bits you aren’t so thrilled about.

  • Definitely not! But can you get nude? Absolutely! Your body will never look the same as this again, and commemorating this with some nude or semi nude images is something I guarantee you will not regret! A lot of ladies are sorta interested but feel self conscious at the beginning of the shoot but almost always opt for some semi nudes by the end when they are feeling themselves. It is entirely up to you and how you feel at the time.

  • Of course! You are always welcome to include your family members, or even bring a friend if you feel more comfortable than coming alone. If you are bringing partners and young children I always recommend having them for the first part of the session then allowing some time just for yourself towards the end. This time is for you and having to attend to small children and their needs can prevent you from being present with yourself and your baby.
